The Australian Early Development Census(AEDC) is an ongoing study conducted bythe Australian government to collect andprovide data about children’s development.It’s conducted every 3 years to examine howchildren have developed by the time theystart school.The latest key findings have just beenreleased.
How is the data Used?
Data is used to identify trends in earlychildhood development. The collectionprocess focuses on 5 key domain areas,physical health and wellbeing, socialcompetence, emotional maturity, languageand cognitive skills and communicationskills and general knowledge. Bringingattention to areas that are working well tosupport children and highlighting areas thatcould use some improvement.
Why is it important?
The early years lay the foundation for allfuture development. Educator’s planning forchildren’s learning can use this vital researchin their curriculum decision-making,supporting a true holistic approach tofostering children’s development andwellbeing. The evidence is clear, educatorshave the ability to positively impact andshape the future lives of the young peoplethey educate and care for each day.
