Being a trainee is about combining learning with real work. You are building your skills in two connected ways. Part of your training takes place on the job, where you learn directly through your daily tasks and experiences. The other part happens off the job, where you step back from your workplace and focus on the knowledge that supports your practice. Together, these approaches give you both the theory and the practical ability you need to grow in your role.
You will have regular contact with your trainer throughout your traineeship. At least one per month your trainer will visit you at your workplace to see how you are progressing, answer questions, and guide you through your next steps. These visits are designed to keep you on track and give you the confidence to apply what you are learning in a way that works for you and your employer.
Need more than monthly workplace visits? No Problem! Trainers can schedule fortnightly visits to the service and provide ad-hoc support via phone or email as needed.
Alongside this, you will complete online learning that covers the underpinning knowledge required for your qualification. These activities give you the chance to deepen your understanding and prepare for your assessments at a pace that fits around your work. Your trainer will always be available to support you with this learning so you never feel like you are working in isolation.
An important part of your training is collecting real-world evidence from your workplace. This could be examples of tasks you complete, processes you follow, or feedback from your supervisor. These pieces of evidence form part of your assessment and show how you are applying your learning every day in a genuine work setting.
Student life as a trainee is about balance. You are contributing to your workplace while developing the skills and knowledge that will set you up for a strong career. With regular support from your trainer, online learning resources, and real-world practice, your traineeship becomes a journey where every day at work moves you closer to achieving your qualification.
